10 Date Ideas to Do in Yosemite National Park

Hey there, lovebirds! If you and your partner are looking to spend some quality time together surrounded by waterfalls, meadows, breathtaking viewpoints then look no further than Yosemite National Park. This place is perfect for couples who love adventure, nature, and everything in between. Whether you're planning a first date, an anniversary, or just a day trip adventure, Yosemite has something for every occasion. As a local Yosemite Photographer, here are my top ten date ideas that will make your time in Yosemite unforgettable!

1. Sunrise at Glacier Point

Start your day with a sunrise at Glacier Point, one of the most iconic spots in Yosemite. The viewpoint is simply beautiful with a panoramic sight of Yosemite Valley, Half Dome, and the High Sierra. Pack a cozy blanket, a thermos of coffee, and snuggle up with your partner as the sky lights up in hues of pink and orange. During the summer months, sunrise in Yosemite is usually 5:30AM and during Yosemite’s winter months, sunrise is around 7AM.

2. Picnic at Sentinel Meadow

After your sunrise adventure, head over to Sentinel Meadow for a picnic! This lush, open meadow offers stunning views of Yosemite Falls and the surrounding granite cliffs. Lay out a blanket, unpack your favorite snacks, and enjoy breakfast surrounded by the sounds of nature. Don’t forget to bring a camera to capture these moments – a perfect opportunity for some candid shots! Or you can hire a photographer (aka me!) to capture a couple session throughout Yosemite National Park.

3. Hike to Vernal Falls

For couples who love a bit of adventure, a hike to Vernal Falls is a must. The Mist Trail is a moderately challenging hike that rewards you with stunning views of the cascading waterfall. The refreshing mist from the falls creates a cool and refreshing feel! Hold hands as you climb the steps and take in this magical hike together!

4. Stargazing in Tuolumne Meadows

When the sun sets, Yosemite's night sky comes alive with countless stars. Yosemite National Park is truly the best spot to go stargazing at. Head to Tuolumne Meadows for an unforgettable stargazing experience. Away from the light pollution, the stars seem brighter and closer than ever! Bring a telescope or just lie back on a blanket and stare into the Milky Way. It's a dreamy setting that will leave you both speechless! Another amazing spot to go stargazing in Yosemite National Park is Tunnel View. Stargazing in Tunnel View is just as beautiful and it’s closer to the south entrance!

5. Horseback Riding in Wawona

For a unique and romantic adventure, try horseback riding in Wawona, Yosemite National Park! The Wawona Stables offers guided rides through beautiful forest trails and open meadows in Yosemite National Park. Riding side by side, you'll feel like you're in a fairytale, surrounded by towering pines and beautiful views! It’s a peaceful and enchanting way to explore Yosemite!

6. Ice Skating at Curry Village

If you're visiting in the winter, don’t miss out on ice skating at Curry Village. The outdoor rink is surrounded by the magical cliffs and towering trees, creating a winter wonderland. Hold hands as you glide across the ice and warm up afterwards with some hot cocoa by the fire pit! There are many different winter activities to do in Yosemite National Park and this is for sure one of my favorites!

7. Explore Mariposa Grove

Take a peaceful walk among the giant sequoias in Mariposa Grove. This is such an underrated area in Yosemite National Park. The Yosemite sequoias are aweing, and the grove has several trails of varying lengths and difficulties. The sheer size of the sequoias creates the perfect spot for some quiet reflection and deep conversations. Truly the perfect area for a romantic walk in Yosemite National Park.

8. Kayaking on Tenaya Lake

For a refreshing summer date, rent a kayak in Yosemite and paddle around Tenaya Lake! The crystal-clear waters and surrounding granite domes are amazing to look at throughout your adventure! It’s such a peaceful setting, perfect for bonding! Pack a lunch and enjoy a secluded picnic on the shore!

9. Climb Half Dome Together

If you and your partner are up for a real challenge, conquering Half Dome together is a thrilling and rewarding experience. The hike is strenuous and it is not for the weak. It also requires a permit, but the view from the top is absolutely worth it. Standing hand in hand, looking out over the vast wilderness, you'll feel on top of the world – literally and figuratively. This would truly be the most adventurous date in Yosemite National Park, if you’re up for the challenge!

10. Scenic Drive on Tioga Road

Sometimes, the journey is just as beautiful as the destination. Take a scenic drive along Tioga Road, which honestly has some of the most breathtaking views in Yosemite National Park. Stop at all the different overlooks, take in the scenery, and snap some photos along the way. It’s a relaxed and leisurely way to explore and take a roadtrip through Yosemite National Park!
