Why They Planned a Two-Day Yosemite Wedding
When Nicole and Evan started planning their two-day summer Tenaya Lake wedding in Yosemite, they knew they wanted to slow down and enjoy every part of the experience. Instead of squeezing everything into one busy day, they split their photography coverage over two days so they could spend more time with their family and explore some of Yosemite National Park’s most iconic locations!
Sunrise Family Photos at Taft Point
The morning before their wedding, we met for sunrise at Taft Point. Nicole and Evan originally planned to have their first look there but decided to save that special moment for their wedding day. Instead, we turned the morning into a family adventure with their two energetic little boys!
This was actually the first, and probably only, family session I’ve photographed at Taft Point! The views are absolutely incredible, but with adventurous little kids, safety comes first. Nicole knew her boys loved to explore, so I even brought my husband, Seth, along to help keep an extra set of eyes on them while we captured these unforgettable memories.

Do you need a permit for tenaya lake wedding?
Every wedding held inside Yosemite National Park requires a Special Use Permit issued by the National Park Service. Couples should apply well in advance, as ceremony locations have guest limits and availability throughout the season. Tenaya Lake is such a versatile spot for elopements, and there are a few things brides and couples should know before saying “I do” here:
Seclusion: While it's a popular spot for tourists, it’s usually still peaceful enough to create an intimate ceremony, especially if you’re planning a sunrise or off-the-beaten-path session. It’s the perfect combination of stunning scenery and privacy!
Permits: If you’re eloping or planning a wedding at Tenaya Lake, don’t forget to apply for your Yosemite wedding permit (this is required for all weddings in the park). When Is Tenaya Lake Accessible?
If you’re planning a visit or dreaming of a Tenaya Lake wedding, timing is everything. Because the lake sits at a high elevation in Yosemite National Park, access depends heavily on seasonal weather conditions. The only road to Tenaya Lake, Tioga Pass Road (Highway 120), closes each winter due to heavy snowfall. It typically reopens in late May or early June after snow removal crews clear the route and conditions are deemed safe.

Summer and early fall are great times to visit, but keep in mind that the area can get a little crowded, especially on weekends, just around the beach picnic areas. If you want to avoid the crowds, consider eloping during the early morning or late evening. You can also hire me as your photographer and I’ll share all the best secluded areas for your ceremony!
3. What is the weather like in Tioga Pass?
It can be cooler here, especially in the mornings and evenings, so be prepared! Bring layers and comfy shoes if you’re planning to explore around the lake or do a bit of hiking!
